CHRHS Annual Ski Sale & Swap - “Giving Used Gear a Second Life”

Kids outgrown their ski equipment? Got some old ice skates kicking around the garage that you’ve been meaning to sell? Looking for some great deals to outfit the family for winter snow sports? If so, the annual Camden Hills Regional High School Ski Team Ski Sale at Camden Hills Regional High School this November 22th-24th is the place for you. This is an excellent opportunity to make some money on snow sport equipment that is outgrown or no longer used. At the same time, you can get some great deals on used equipment such as skis (both nordic and alpine), boots, poles, snowboards, skates, helmets, skates, etc.

Want to sell used equipment?

Pre-register your equipment online at https://sites.google.com/site/chrhsskisale.  Then, bring the items you want to sell to Camden Hills Regional High School on Friday, November 22th from 3 PM until 8 PM. You set the price; the ski team keeps 25% and you get 75%. You can set a lower Sunday price for any items that do not sell on Saturday. On Sunday between noon and 1:30 pm, pick up a check for 75% of what was sold and take home any items that didn’t sell. You can watch online what sells by going to the website (link above).  If your items don’t sell they must be picked up by 1:30pm on Sunday or they will be donated to an appropriate source.

Want to buy used equipment?

Come to Camden Hills Regional High School on Saturday, November 23th from 9 am until 1 pm and Sunday, November 24th from 10 am until 1:00 pm for some terrific deals on used equipment. In addition to items brought in on Friday evening, SideCountry Sports,  Ragged Mountain Sports and Auclair Cycle and Ski will be selling new and used gear at rock bottom prices. The selection is better on Saturday; there are some super bargain prices on Sunday. The new Sunday prices will be available at the website after 4 pm Saturday. Your purchases support the CHRHS ski teams.

The annual CHRHS Ski Team Ski Sale is the only one of its kind in the midcoast- you won’t want to miss it.  For more information, go to http://sites.google.com/site/chrhsskisale or call Richard at 542-7571.

One-Of-A-Kind Chris Van Dusen Print To Be Auctioned At Fundraising Event - Nov. 16

The Camden Rockport Middle School’s If I Built a Middle School fundraising event with Chris Van Dusen is coming up Saturday, November 16, 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Camden Snow Bowl.

We are so excited to share the news that Chris Van Dusen has provided a one-of-a kind, ready to hang, 20” x 36” canvas print of a special image from his If I Built a School book to be auctioned off at the event! We feel extremely honored to have his generous support for our fundraising initiatives. If you are unable to attend the event, it is still possible to bid on this amazing print with this link. Please note that absentee bidding will close November 15 at 3 p.m.

We do hope you will join us for an afternoon of family fun with live music, food for purchase, an If I Built a S’mores bar, and a reading of his latest book, If I Built a School, by the bonfire. The timing of this book couldn’t have been better for our new middle school project. Come hear the fanciful ideas captured in the book and learn about our new middle school.

In addition to the auction, the afternoon will include sales of prints and T-shirts from artwork in his book, some of which will be specially modified for this event. Attendees will also be able to purchase and name a seat in the Bisbee Theater at the new Camden Rockport Middle School. Funds raised will be used for the new middle school’s athletic fields, theater lighting, playground equipment, furniture, and an art sculpture. We are nearly halfway to our goal of $500,000. We hope to see you there!

Winter Recess

We do go outside when it is cold!  At CRES, students go outside as long as the “feels like” temperature is 0 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.  Fresh air and daylight provide a good healthy break in our day and chance for free play with friends!

Students are expected to go outside for recess — weather permitting. This requires proper clothing and footwear.
5 items of winter clothing are required when the weather is cold:

  1. Coat / Jacket
  2. Hat
  3. Mittens
  4. Snowpants
  5. Boots

Please make sure your student arrives to school each day with these 5 items. Students are welcome to keep a set in their locker.

Our nurse has a limited number of items available to borrow (and return!) on a given day. If you need help providing winter outerwear to your student, let us know. Talk to your child’s teacher, the Main Office, or the nurse.

Progress Report Cards

Progress Reports will be sent home in your child's home folder on December 13th.  Some families may want an extra copy of the report card.  If you would like to request an additional copy of your child's progress report, please contact Brenda Fournier at 236-7809 or brenda.fournier@fivetowns.net.

School Calendar Change for December 11

The calendar has been updated on the CRES Website and paper copies are available in the Main Office.  Please make a note on your home calendars, too!

Presenting…….the Daisy!

Here are the rules and expectations for use for this piece of playground equipment.  Please use these same expectations with your child when using the playground during non-school times.

  • Must be able to reach the handles on own to use the daisy.
  • Face inward and keep appropriate space.
  • Propel the daisy by running, not pushing others’ bodies
  • No climbing on top of this structure.

Clarifying End of Day Note Procedures

Here are the revised expectations that should balance our need to know where your children are going after school and your need for a manageable system.

A Dismissal Note is NOT Needed:

  • If you have a regular pick up or YMCA After Care plan on file with the homeroom teacher
  • If your child is going home on the bus

 A Dismissal Note IS Needed:

  • If plans change during the day (call the office at 236-7809)
  • If someone other than a parent/guardian is picking up your child.
  • If your child is riding a bus to anywhere other than home.  Please notice this is a change to dismissal note procedures that have been in place since the beginning of the school year.

- Every time your child rides a bus to somewhere other than home they need a note in hand to give to the bus driver.

- This includes regular, recurring plans (i.e. MRC on Monday, YMCA, friend's house)

- When writing notes for bus drivers please make sure you are very specific:

1) We need the child’s name, bus number, address they are going to

2) When going to a friend’s house, then the friend’s address and name is needed

3) All notes should be dated and legible

All notes must be written by a parent/guardian.

Transportation / bus questions can be directed to Julie Waters, Transportation Director at 236-3358 or julie.waters@fivetowns.net.

Pick up / dismissal questions can be directed to Chris Walker-Spencer, Principal, at 236-7809 or chris.walker-spencer@fivetowns.net

Did You Know . . . ?

Closure to the school day is an important part of learning.  CRES is in instructional time until the dismissal bell at 3:30pm.  When a student leaves class early, it disrupts the flow of the class, and the student misses part of the lesson.  Please avoid early dismissal of your student whenever possible.

Notes, Notes, Notes . . . we love Dismissal Plan Notes!

If your child is doing anything other than riding the bus home at the end of the day, we need a note from you, the parent/guardian.

A note is required if your student is:

  • Being picked up
  • Going on a bus to someplace other than home (i.e. Y, MRC, friend’s house)

Please send a note or call the office at 236-7809 (we’d be happy to write one for you!) for every day that your student is not going home on the bus.

Students will be dismissed from their classroom with notes in hand to ensure they get to their destination that day.   For regularly occurring after school plans (such as every Monday to MRC for tennis), feel free to fill in the attached note template ahead of time, leaving the date blank.  Print/copy a few to have at the ready, then write the date at the top and send it in with your child that day!

Label All Clothing

The CRES Lost & Found is already getting filled up!  Please put your child’s name in all clothing that comes to school.  We would be happy to reunite items to their owner, if we only had a name…..Thanks!

Presenting…….the Slide!

Here are the rules and expectations for use for this piece of playground equipment.

Please use these same expectations with your child when using the playground during non-school times.

New State Laws In Effect as of Yesterday

Take note!  More than 560 new Maine laws went into effect yesterday.  Please read this info from the Bangor Daily News on two of them that may impact CRES Families:

“New traffic laws are among the highlights, including the handheld device change with an expensive ticket for violators and car seat changes. The most ink has been spilled on the handheld device change, which will put Maine among a group of more than 20 states that has banned the use of handheld devices while driving. Texting while driving has been illegal since 2011 and this new law effectively bolsters that one.

Parents of young children should also take note of changes to car seat laws. The major changes will require most children to ride in rear-facing seats until age 2. Those weighing less than 55 pounds must use child restraint systems in accordance with manufacturer regulations.”

The Camden Rockport School Alliance is having its first meeting of the year at CRES at 5:30pm on Monday, 9/16! You've seen the papers come home or displayed at Open House Night. This is how you can stay in touch with the teachers and other parents about what's going on and what is needed in your child's grade! No need to attend meetings regularly, but please do get your contact information to your teacher so that we can include you in your grade's communication!

Early Release this Wednesday

Our first Early Release Day is coming up on Wednesday.  CRES will dismiss at 2pm, instead of 3:30pm. If your child is a bus rider, expect to see them arrive 1.5 hours earlier to your bus stop.

Early Release days are District-wide.  The Middle School and High School release early at 1:15 on the same day.  Early Release days occur approximately once per month and the time is used for staff training and teacher professional development.  The Early Release Days for the year are noted on the CRES School Calendar

Please note at CRES, Y Aftercare adjusts to all early dismissals and begins their programming when school dismisses.  On Wednesday, Y Care will begin at 2pm. The P2P Dance class held at CRES also moves up to begin right after school on Early Release days.

Did You Know…...Emergency Contacts vs. Approved to Pick Up Your Child

Parents/guardians must write a note or call if anyone other than them will be picking up their child from school.  Send the note into school with your student or call the Main Office at 236-7809.

Emergency Contacts in your child’s file are just that: contacts, in an emergency.  They are other names and numbers to call if we cannot reach a parent/guardian. Emergency Contacts do not have automatic permission to pick up your student.
