Horizons Program Screening Criteria
I. SCREENING POOL CRITERIA
Guidelines for inclusion: End of Grade 2 (must meet both):
- Teacher Questionnaire (≥39)
- NWEA Reading or Math (≥95% )

*To be identified as ‘gifted’ in a particular subject (in addition to qualifying for Horizons Extension classes), a student would need to meet the criteria for the Extension class below, but must have scores in the ‘Gifted and Talented’ range on the above chart.
II. HORIZONS PLACEMENT
1. Reading Extension (Grade 3 or Grade 4)
Guidelines for inclusion (must meet 3/4 criteria):
- NWEA Reading (Spring) ≥95%
- CogAT ≥93%
- SAGES II LA/SS (K-3 for 3rd graders; 4-8 for 4th graders) ≥90%
- Interview Criteria score of ≥4
2. Math/Science Extension (Grade 3 or Grade 4)
Guidelines for inclusion (must meet ¾ criteria):
- NWEA Math (Spring) ≥95%
- CogAT ≥93%
- SAGES II Math/Science (K-3 for 3rd graders; 4-8 for 4th graders) ≥90%
- Interview Criteria score of ≥4
3. Appeal Criteria (Grade 3 and 4)
Guidelines for inclusion (must meet AT LEAST ONE of the criteria in the subject being appealed):
Math/Science: To be given/evaluated in the order listed below. Testing will go no further, if a qualifying score is attained at any point:
- Winter NWEA Math: ≥95%
- Math skills test (for appropriate grade level) ≥90%
- CogAT ≥93%
- SAGES II Math/Science ≥90%
